Aldo is a straight-as-an-arrow, A+ student with the best grades in his test prep class. But Aldo keeps getting busted by his parents for downloading pirated computer games. One day, he's so fed up that he opts to pirate something of value that his parents will be proud of--a new series on DVD. He downloads the movie and while watching it decides to find out more about what illegal copyright infringement is all about. Tired of being caught downloading every month, Aldo gets online to research how copyright law works and finds himself overwhelmed with information regarding copyrights, the legal process, the ramifications for breaking them, etc. The more he learns about copyright, the more he realizes that his parents are wrong to think that "stealing" is wrong. He also learns that the people who enforce copyright laws live in Washington D.C., and they're not interested at all in protecting Aldo's rights. They are only interested in making money off of them. Aldo realizes that their work is dangerous, because it could lead to him getting shipped off to a detention camp or thrown into prison if he doesn't stop downloading illegal media. "If I don't cooperate with the Copyright Police, I'll have to answer to them." So he decides to stop downloading. But will it be easy? Will he really be able to stop? The movie begins with Aldo's parents telling him that they are sending him off to a detention camp. They call it "copyright camp" where many other teenagers are sent. What does Aldo think about being sent away? He is scared for his life at the thought of being shipped off to prison. His parents think that this might be exaggerated, because not everyone has been sent away over downloading pirated media. When Aldo finds out about how people are being sent to prison over downloading "illegal" media, he cannot believe it. He thinks to himself: "It's so unfair! People can get in so much trouble for just sharing a movie or song online. It's not fair!" So when his parents tell him that they will be sending him to copyright camp, he is in shock and disbelief. The only thing he can think is: "Why? After all I've done to stop downloading and sharing media? Why would they send me away?" He thought that the copyright cops would be happy that he stopped sharing illegal media with others. But his parents reassure him that the copyright police are not happy at all. Aldo is unprepared to experience life in prison. There are many difficult things about the camp. For example, there are kids there whom he doesn't even know, and he has to share a tiny room with three other kids who never talk to him. Aldo is also stressed because he cannot go online at all times. Video games, Internet access, and portable DVD players are banned in the entire camp while he is there, which makes Aldo very angry. 8eeb4e9f32 21
